Dealing with Step 8/9 and making amends

truth is that it is impossible to stay sober and move forward without doing these steps thoroughly and honestly. The guilt alone keeps you stuck in the "old way of thinking" and it is impossible to be honest with yourself when you’re in that zone. You make a list of the people you had harmed. You make the amend and you pay people back what you can. The "program" is based around it. If I want what the others have then I have to do what they do. This is what they do. It is as simple as that. The tough part was explaining to people why I am doing it. I just told them the truth, and I got the respect I never thought I would get. Some people actually decline the money and ended up making amends to me!

  1. How Funny is that I just came back from a ninth step meeting tonight…For me and this is for me the priciples within each and every one of the steps are a vehicle to allow a person in the recovery process to get ahead spiritually…the ninth step is the key to getting that. Because it allows one to get even..you cannot get ahead until first get even.
It’s not so much about paying people back but mending the harm you may have caused..not only to others but yourself..We carry the shame, the guilt of the actions displayed while active. The harm we inflicted yes,l may scar those that crossed our paths..but we carry the festering wounds of the actions after..It’s only another part of the process of healing. Of choosing to be responsibile for who we were, what we did and making a decision to be accountable for the behaviors. Responsibility of the harm created allows the freedom of resolution to occur
